UOW ranked among the world’s best universities for engineering

Times Higher Education World Ƶapp Rankings by Subject show UOW’s strengths in engineering and computer science

The Ƶapp of Ƶapp (UOW) has cemented its place among the world’s leading engineering universities in the prestigious 2022 Times Higher Education World Ƶapp Rankings by Subject for Engineering, released today (Wednesday 6 October).

In an exceptional result, UOW ranked 83rd in the world for , up nine places from last year when UOW ranked 92nd in the world. The result makes UOW the 6th ranked university for engineering in Australia

UOW also performed strongly in , ranking in the top 300 universities worldwide.

THE Rankings by Subject use the same rigorous performance indicators as the THE World Ƶapp Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

The rankings for engineering highlight the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering.

Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences (EIS) Senior Professor Gursel Alici welcomed the results.

“UOW has a longstanding reputation, in Australia and globally, for excellence in engineering disciplines, and a growing reputation for high quality research and teaching in information sciences including computer sciences,” Professor Alici said.

“These strong results can be credited to the hard work and dedication of all staff across the Faculty, who can be proud of their efforts and contributions to these fantastic outcomes.

“Our engineering and information sciences schools and units will continue to strive for excellence in research and teaching, and remain committed to producing quality graduates and impactful research.”

In the overall THE World Ƶapp Rankings for 2022 released on September 2, UOW ranked 221 in the world (up 10 places from last year). UOW ranked 6th in the world in the THE Impact Rankings this year (up from 31 in the world last year); and jumped three places to rank 23rd in the world In the THE Young Universities Ranking.

THE released its rankings for Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Clinical and Health, Psychology on 16 September 2021. It’s rankings for Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, and Law will be released on 13 October; the rankings for Arts and Humanities on 3 November.
