Traffic diversions in place as students return to uni
Temporary traffic management measures in place during peak time
Transport for NSW will again implement a temporary traffic management plan around the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp to manage congestion as students and staff return to campus from Monday 27 February.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said, as in previous years, morning traffic diversions will be implemented to alleviate congestion on local roads and queuing on the M1 Princes Motorway in both directions approaching the university exit ramps.
“The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp Education Precinct Traffic Management Plan will be in place for about six weeks to ensure the safety of the community and alleviate congestion for the region’s commuters,” the Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
“The plan has had considerable success in the past, with a noticeable reduction in the impact on the local area. However, we would still encourage those attending UOW and TAFE NSW to leave their car at home and consider alternative transport options where possible."
UOW Chief Operating Officer Alan Corr said the university was excited to welcome students back, with more students expected on campus this semester following the return of face-to-face learning over the past year.
“The university has a record number of enrolments for 2023, therefore we are expecting busy traffic periods at the start of the semester, with traffic delays surrounding the campus,” Mr Corr said.
“UOW is working closely with Transport for NSW to ensure the community stays informed regarding the diversions and updated traffic information.”
Traffic management activities will include diversions and traffic control in place during the morning peak Monday to Friday from 27 February 2023. Motorists travelling in the area are encouraged to monitor traffic and travel times or consider an alternative route if possible.
All motorists who are travelling to the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp Education Precinct are being encouraged to plan their trip and consider alternative transport options such as train, bus, cycling or carpooling. Train services to North ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp are being met by UOW’s free shuttle buses and the free Gong Shuttle, which runs every 10-20 minutes in peak times. The campus is also only a short cycle from the station.
