The global state of instability: how the sleeping giant awoke
UOW to host online seminar on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, its causes and consequences
As one of the most perturbing global events of this century, the Russian attack on Ukraine is one of the largest military operations in recent history. It has the potential to redraw not only borders in Europe but may be the starting point for a transformation of the global order as we know it.
To assess the scale of the damage and the ramifications for global order, the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp’s (UOW) Transnational Law and Policy Centre (TLPC) will hold an online seminar on the future of Ukraine and the international order: “The Invasion of Ukraine: Causes and Consequences”.
The one-hour webinar will take place on Tuesday, 8 March at 12pm (noon) AEDT via Zoom.
The panel of experts, Professor (UOW), Associate Professor (UOW), Associate Professor and , will analyse the motives behind Russia's attack, investigate to what extent NATO expansion is a genuine concern for Russia and discuss the rules of international law that apply to its military operations.
The experts will also address the geopolitical and economic consequences of this conflict for Ukraine, Russia, Europe and the world.
“The war in Ukraine is a tragedy and has the potential to reshape the political and economic order not only of Europe but globally,” Professor Wagner said.
“We are entering a world of instability and increasing uncertainty for the price for energy and consumables, with disruptions of supply chains for years to come. This will hit the pocketbooks on a daily basis, from the price of petrol and food and impact the availability of goods.”
