UOW supports future leaders through new Vice-Chancellor scholarship

Scholarships to support the next generation of leaders from and for the Illawarra region

As a proud graduate of the Ƶapp of Ƶapp (UOW), Vice-Chancellor Professor Patricia M. Davidson is passionate about nurturing young leaders for the local community.

Under her guidance and vision, UOW has launched the Vice-Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship, which aims to inspire a new generation of young, local, passionate leaders and give them the knowledge, skills, and worldviews to be the future leaders from and for the Illawarra.

The Scholarship will prepare students to develop leadership potential through building connections, skills and knowledge from an early stage in their academic career, all of which are essential in solving complex issues facing our society globally and locally.

It will bring like-minded local students together who are passionate about leadership, contributing to the community and have demonstrated academic excellence in their respective areas of study.

The Vice-Chancellor's Leadership Scholars will be selected based on their academic achievement and leadership potential.

The Scholarship provides recipients:

  • $30,000 each year for the length of the undergraduate (full-time) degree program
  • Mentoring, professional and skills development training by senior Scholars, community leaders and UOW alumni
  • Study abroad or undertake a short course at prestigious UOW-partnered universities overseas
  • Guaranteed on campus accommodation

UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Patricia M. Davidson said the Scholarship will make access to education more accessible and support future leaders in the local Illawarra community.

"I've seen the region develop and grow since the '70s when I was a student at UOW, and I think it has become one of the best places to live, study and work in Australia, but we must do everything we can to retain and develop our talent.” Professor Davidson said.

“UOW’s vision is to produce leaders who are determined to change the world through innovation, skills and the willingness to give back to the Illawarra community.

“This new Scholarship is just one of the ways UOW aims to support local students and help them build the skills of the future needed to be successful in a highly competitive world.”

ELIGIBILITY:

To be considered for the Vice-Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship, students will need to apply for Early Admission before Friday 13 August 2021.
