Professor takes reins as new Student Ombudsman

Associate Professor Pauline Lysaght has been appointed as the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp's Student Ombudsman, a new role established following a review of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education's portfolio in 2013.

The role will see Professor Lysaght investigating all student academic grievances (including those from Higher Degree Research students) that have not been resolved at Faculty level, as well as overseeing the student course progress appeals process.

"I am very pleased to have been appointed to the role and appreciate the opportunities it provides for working with students and staff across the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp," Professor Lysaght said.

"My approach is to treat students with respect, to give them a fair hearing and ensure that the outcomes of their appeals are balanced and equitable. I look forward to collaborating with staff across the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp to effect positive change in the experiences of our students."

Professor Lysaght has previously held the positions of Sub Dean and Associate Dean in the former Faculty of Education at the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵapp, where she worked with colleagues to enhance student transition to higher education, academic engagement and learning. More recently, as the Associate Director of Early Start in the Faculty of Social Sciences, she has been involved in developing interdisciplinary opportunities for learning, teaching, research and community engagement for staff and students, a role which she will continue on a part-time basis.
